“The $1500 price is because that’s how much the State will pay me to scrap the car”

That blows my fragile little mind. As much as I love the RallyMetro, if the state would pay me $1500 to scrap it, well bye Felicia!

NP.

I’d rather see someone driving all those parts around. But for me, I’m done with that car after like fifteen years.

In today’s dollars, that car was about $36,000+ new. I don’t know how old you are, but when those Camrys were new, they were highly sought after by thieves and car strippers. The most oft stolen car in the United States at one time. We’ve even had this car stolen once because the ignition is so worn out that any key is a shave key. They drove it like three blocks and stole my wife’s wallet and left it.

The Golden Age of Toyota. That is simply one of the best built, most reliable cars ever sold in the United States. I don’t think the same was true of the V-6 version though.

I’d give $200, assuming they’d give it back to me at the scrapper..........

Jokes aside, I was in until the pics came around to the driver’s side, then I was like:

I totally agree, but the RallyMetro is work like $78 on the open market.  I’m going to keep hammering on it until the front a-arm mounts collapse from rust.  This reminds me, I have to go fail my emissions test before the end of the month.

It’s the same money either way. One way, someone gets to drive all those parts around for a while.

Honestly if the body was nicer, it’d be in the realm of NP. Current condition, $500 would be my top if I absolutely needed a beater to get me by.

Then again, if you park in the parking lot at the mall, no worries.

It’s my CL listing. If nobody wants it, I’ll take the money from the state and let it be crushed.

I don’t see how you could go wrong at $1500 for this.  I’d be happier if it was a 3 pedal, but NP.

As a guys who has bough six 80s Toyotas for under 2k, four of them needing “just a [blank],” it’s a bigly “not yes ” at that price. You’ve got a Ship of Theseus thing going on, but lo behold something else broke. Just what happens on 30+ old cars, even Toyotas. And cosmetically: good interior, not so great exterior. So it’s an ugly car that needs another part that’s 30-something years old for $ 1500. Tough sell but good luck

Yeah. I was contacted by a TROLL who would agree with you. I just got tired of fooling with it after like fifteen years and I replaced the heater core already about a year ago. So a thousand from the State is looking good. But five minutes spent making a CL listing isn't a huge investment of time or effort. But yeah. Then again, you'd not be my target audience. But yeah.

It’s some kind of philosophical whatever or paradox maybe: basically you’ve replaced so many parts on the car that it’s almost a totally different vehicle. My concern is all the remaining parts will continue to fail. Everything on my Tercels failed, usually right after I thought I was done replacing broken things . Many things don’t work on the pickup but it’s a pickup, not a DD.

If that car needed a transmission , I’d probably go find one for it. But a heater core? Nope. Done. Finito .

I would think that would be easy enough to do. I did my old Acclaim’s heater core myself, took about 6 hrs on a S aturday. I called a few shops and decided $800 wasn’t worth it for a $27 part, so I did it myself. Wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be...
